Tim’s New Employer

This fall, Tim will be teaching Composition at Southwood High School in Shreveport.  He will have five classes of seniors (1 honors) and 1 class of freshman.  His freshman class is an honors class comprised of between 20 and 25 students who tested into the biotech magnet program at Southwood.  All of the classes these students take at Southwood will be honors, AP or dual enrollment classes.  They will graduate high school with 24 hours of college credit.  Pretty neat, huh?

Southwood has approximately 1400 students in grades 9-12.  In addition to the academic magnet program I mentioned above, Southwood also has a rich athletic history.

This not so great picture taken outside the Southwood gym shows some (but not all) of the state banners for the Southwood girls basketball team.  Their girls basketball team has advanced to the state title game 14 of the last 15 years – and it won 10 of those games.  The Southwood girls softball team has made it deep into the playoffs the last few years as well.

When we were at Southwood this afternoon, we had a chance to see Tim’s new classroom.  I didn’t take any pictures of his classroom, but I did get some pictures of Southwood’s courtyard.

Tim’s classroom is on the second floor and looks out onto this courtyard.

One last view of the front of Southwood…

Since Southwood is on the south side of Shreveport and Plain Dealing is north of Shreveport, Tim will have a commute of about an hour each way to school.  Of course, he won’t have to contend with snow and ice and freezing rain when he commutes here!
